FAQ

What is Tempeh?

Tempeh is a nutrient-dense, wholefood and plant-based protein source made from fermented soybeans. Originating in Indonesia, it boasts a nutty flavour, meaty texture, and is prized for its protein and gut health benefits.

How do I cook Tempeh?

Tempeh's versatility is mind-blowing! Marinate it for stir-fries, crumble it into tacos, bake it into Tempeh bacon, or pan-fry it for satisfying steaks. The possibilities are endless! Check out our recipes!

Is Tempeh healthy?

Absolutely! Tempeh is a complete protein, meaning it has all the essential amino acids your body needs. It's also high in fibre, iron, vitamins, and prebiotics, making it a fantastic addition to a healthy diet.

Does Tempeh taste like meat?

Tempeh has its own distinct, slightly nutty flavour that's not quite like meat. However, it does have a firm meaty texture. Tempeh’s ability to soak up marinades and sauces makes it a fantastic meat substitute in many dishes.

Can I freeze Tempeh?

Definitely! Freezing is a great way to extend Tempeh's shelf life. Simply wrap it tightly in cling film or store it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 6 months. Make sure it's within the use by date on the packaging. Once defrosted, use it for 2 days. (Top Tip: we recomend you cut the tempeh into portion sizes before freezing).

What are those black spots on my Tempeh?

No need to worry! Those are just harmless spores from the starter culture used in fermentation. They're completely safe to eat, but you can scrape them off if you prefer.

Love tempeh and this one was a great size, really good idea re local production, being organic and being unpasteurised. The only thing that wad a bit off was the taste. Needs a lot of spice and flavouring.

Unsure if it’s worth the money

I’ve been told that never to eat raw tempeh so unsure how this unpasteurized tempeh which is being marketed as superior ,is supposed to be eaten -all your recipes show it being cooked so how can that retain any probiotic content ?!

Beats the supermarket stuff hands down

I ordered the tempeh and some other bits to feed my gut while I’m recovering from diverticulitis. Wow, this is completely different to any tempeh I’ve used before. The texture is so tender and it cooks really well. The shape of the block means I can tear it into chunks so there are lots of crispy bit. It’s sooo good! I won’t be going back to shop bought tempeh.
